I believe onboarding should be as easy as “checking out on Amazon,” with a lot more heart. Keeping things simple and clear shows respect for their time, while adding personal touches shows you’re invested in their unique journey. Start with a Message of Excitement

On the morning of the wedding, I love to send a group text to the couple. It’s a simple but powerful gesture—congratulating them, hyping them up, and sharing in their excitement for the day ahead. This small touch enhances the photography client experience. It creates a sense of camaraderie and shows that you’re genuinely invested. It’s all about making their day unforgettable.

Authentic Connection on the Wedding Day

One of the best things you can do for your clients on the wedding day is to be yourself. I show up as the real me—joking around, making friends with the wedding party, and staying in the moment. When you’re authentic, people feel it, and it puts them at ease, allowing you to capture more genuine, relaxed moments.

This extra touch can make them feel appreciated, and it also helps them get more value out of their photos. Encouraging couples to print and share their images extends their connection to the experience, reinforcing the positive memories they associate with your work.

Feedback is invaluable for any photographer aiming to improve. When a couple shares a moment they especially loved, I take note—and make a point to include more of that in future sessions. Listening to feedback and adapting your process shows clients that you truly care about making their experience even better, and it helps you build a more refined, responsive approach to your work.
